Our 'infamous' OPEN MIC' NIGHT started in 2002, as the brainchild of Landlord Dave & GRAHAM GOOD of 'The Redwood Band' fame, they wanted something different to a run-of-the-mill Jam Night, which Dave had very successfully run for 2 or 3 years at his last pub, 'The Alma'.
The idea being that solo acts, duos, etc etc could just get up and play their own style of music, whatever it was.... and also join in and play with others, if necessary.... Solo singers can do a couple of numbers backed by anyone who has an instrument, and knows the tune.
Since our start, we have had all styles of music from folk & blues, thru' rock, country, punk, George Formby, Irish jigs to Jazz and accapella, and also poetry readings.... One of our highlights...was the evening when Al Rappa, the original double bass player from Bill Haley's Comets, (The one who clambered all over his instrument while playing it) came along and gave us a good rendition of some of the best Bill Haley numbers, accompanied by his son, and Graham on guitars.....

In 2005 Graham decided to take time off and hand over the running of the OPEN MIC' to his good friend CLIVE WALKER to bring a new twist and a more folky feel to it.. and it still rolls successfully on......

The success of this evening culminated in a very good CD, which was recorded 'live' back in November 2004, and released in time for Christmas.... Available for just a fiver, with all the proceeds going to THE ESSEX AIR AMBULANCE charity.... (Over £300.00)
